Where to Stay in Europe for Less Than $40 A Night
Not sure which European country, city or town to visit next? Here are 10 beautiful apartments in countries throughout Europe, each for 40 dollars a night (or much less). These apartments are either in the middle of a bustling city (Warsaw, Porto…) or somewhere unknown, waiting to be discovered (the likes of Kaunas County in Lithuania).
This private studio in Belgrade is 5 minutes from Republic Square, and is 50 meters the bohemian quarter and Skadarlija street. For 34 CAD a night, this studio in Belgrade is ideal for a brief, or extended stay in the city.
This apartment in Istanbul in the Taksim neighbourhood is walking distance from Taksim Square in the European part of Istanbul. The apartment has a historical stone wall (facing the double bed), and is complete with a full bathroom, kitchenette and quaint balcony – for only 21 CAD a night (!!!). I’m off to Istanbul 😉
Kaunas, Kaunas County, Lithuania
A small, cozy house in Lithuania to call your own – and for only 37 CAD/night. This home in Kaunas County is a great way to escape the city for some R&R, all the while enjoying the comforts of modernity (WiFi, heating and air conditioning). The place is cozy and well-kept, with an indoor fireplace. Although the house may seem isolated, you can easily get to the old city centre by car or if you don’t have a car, you can enjoy a (45-minute) walk to the centre.
In Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, you will find plenty of luxurious and affordable apartments like this one (for 39 CAD/night). This apartment is newly renovated, tucked in a colourful residential building and a 30-minute metro ride to the city centre.
This studio in Kraków is cozy and welcoming, and is just 15 minutes from the Main Square (Rynek). For about 34 CAD/night, you are a short walk from the historic centre of Kraków – a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Odessa, the port city on the Black Sea, has beautiful beaches, gardens and architecture. Staying in Odessa is very affordable, and this quiet, courtyard apartment is about 300 meters from the Potemkin Stairs (the formal entrance for the city from the sea). This private apartment (and others like it) in Porto worked as housing for migrant workers at the beginning of the 20th century. The apartment is small and simple, but well-designed and with outdoor seating – right in the middle of the city.
Posola, Tuscany, Italy
If you’re looking for an adventure in nature, this Tuscan “house in the woods” is it (39 CAD/night). The home is modern and yet is surrounded by a natural forest, with great hiking and breathtaking views. While in Tuscany, it is best to rent a car so you can take advantage of visiting surrounding cities like Pistoia (30 minutes away) and of course, Florence (a little over an hour).
Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina
This cozy studio is located right at the centre of Sarajevo, the capital city of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The newly decorated apartment (37 CAD/night) is located in a building from the Austro-Hungarian period.
