Traveling Europe & My Favourite App to Travel With

May 25, 2016,

Traveling Europe (or anywhere for that matter) from city to city is a job – albeit a fun job – there is research to do, accommodations to find, flights or trains to book, luggage to carry, and a new city to discover and to process. Obviously, I love travel and I think you do too, since you’re here with me. But sometimes, it’s all a lot to take in. After having traveled to 15+ countries, and countless cities and towns across the US, Canada, the Caribbean, Central America and Europe, I’ve found the best app for travel. And I never go anywhere without it (if I can’t help it!)

My favourite app to travel with is City Walks by  Traveling Europe with City Walks app by GPSmycity on happiestwhenexploring.comWhy?
This app is a total lifesaver when traveling – City Walks is a responsive map of your chosen city (available for over 500 cities worldwide – see the complete list here) that enables you to locate yourself, locate sights and even track your walk –all without Wi-Fi.
It’s brilliant, really. With this app, you no longer need to use (and spend tons of money) on a data plan. I don’t know HOW the app works to track your location without WiFi or data, but what I do know is that with this app, you won’t need to carry big maps anymore. And really, paper maps only help so much.

Trevi Fountain in Rome - exploring Europe with City Walks app by GPSmycity on happiestwhenexploring.comBut my favourite thing about this app is that it includes the location of important monuments, museums, churches and even boutiques (when you select “show all sights” once on the interactive map). You can search for a specific museum or sights, for example the Picasso Museum in Barcelona or the Trevi fountain in Rome, get the route AND get an outlined history and/or information about the destination and what’s inside the museum. It’s like having a little guidebook in addition to the map.

Hidden Gems
I have actually found some hidden gems and sights I didn’t know about, or hadn’t researched myself – all by utilising the sights already outlined in the app. For example, during my recent visit to Kraków in Poland, I found a unique, maze-like bookshop, Mossolit Books while exploring what was around me (on the City Walks map). Pretty cool, right? And for my fellow vegans, vegetarians or anyone else with a more specific diet, I love using this app to “save” the location of restaurants I want to eat at. I usually save as many as I can as “saved locations”. Then, no matter where I am in the city, I’m sure to find somewhere I can eat within walking distance. And of course, with the app, now I know how to get there!

And if there’s something out there that can help me eat all the vegan food, explore important and lesser-known sights, and not get lost, you know I’m a happy gal.

Does the City Walks app by sound like an app you’d love to explore Europe (or anywhere, for that matter) with? Let me know your favourite travel apps in the comments section below!

While traveling Europe this time around, the cool people at GPSmycity provided me with maps for each city I’m visiting (thanks, guys!) but as always, opinions are my own.

I didn’t know all this about the app! I’m so glad I have their Prague map which I can’t wait to use in June-July of 2017!

SO happy you’ll be able to try em out 😉 Seriously rock. I didn’t have it for Dresden (not available for iOS yet) and I noticed such a difference! Yes, Potsdam! Can’t wait to see what you explore in Krakow, Berlin, Prague, Budapest… <3

I love that you influence people to travel to certain places. It’s good that we have tools out there that can help us. Walking the cities is simply the best 🙂
