10 Songs That’ll Make You Want to Travel

April 18, 2016,

There’s just something about a playlist that can alter your mood, cheer you up, bring you back to a special moment in time… and my favourite: songs that make me want to travel (and songs that I listen to when I travel). Here are 10 songs that’ll inspire you to travel, explore new places, pack your bags and go, soak up the sun, and even bring you back to special cities you’ve visited:

Barcelona – George Ezra
“I’ll be lying right by your side in Barcelonaaaaa”

This song brings me back to Barcelona (my first solo trip). I might be biased by including it but hey, at least the title is the name of a city!

Blankest Year – Nada Surf
“Fuck it, I’m gonna have a party”

(or f*** it, I’m gonna travel!)

Budapest – George Ezra
“My house in Budapest
My hidden treasure chest,”

I know that Ezra isn’t singing about the city of Budapest necessarily, but I think Budapest is definitely a hidden treasure.

Go Big Or Go Home – American Authors
For the end of your trip:

“Don’t feel like going home but all my cash is gone…”

Hit the Road Jack – Ray Charles
“I guess if you say so, I’ll have to pack my things and go”

Here Comes the Sun – the Beatles
“It’s been a long, cold lonely winter… here comes the sun, it’s all right.”

Yes – especially when traveling to warmer climates 🙂

Home – Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros
“I’ll follow you into the park
Through the jungle, through the dark
Girl, I never loved one like you
Moats and boars and waterfalls
Alleyways and pay phone calls
I’ve been everywhere with you”

I just really like this one – it makes me want to take a road trip, fall in love, travel indefinitely and walk around barefoot – and I wouldn’t even be worried about the dirt under my feet.

Island in the Sun – Weezer
“On an island in the sun
We’ll be playin’ an’ havin’ fun
And it makes me feel so fine
I can’t feel my brain”

“When you’re on a golden sea
You don’t need no memory
Just a place to call your own”

“We’ll run away together
We’ll spend some time forever
We’ll never feel bad anymore”

Someone New – Hozier
“I fall in love just a little, oh little bit every day with someone new… the stranger the better.”

Because I fall in love with new, foreign places and then feel like I’m cheating one destination with the next. Do you?

Road Trippin’ – Red Hot Chili Peppers
“Let’s go get lost, anywhere in the U.S.A…
Now let us drink the stars, it’s time to steal away
Let’s go, get lost, right here in the U.S.A”

Smooth, soothing song for a road trip in the good ol’ US of A.

I love the Budapest song, I loved it even more when one republic sang it last April at the Bell Centre.

One republic “I lived”, makes me want to go everywhere.

Bob Marley’s songs, makes me think of the Carabbeans, sun and the palm trees all the time.

Tep no “Sweat like a sailor”, makes we want to sail on a beautiful sunny day.

Kygo “Firestone”, makes me think of Hawaii. Don’t ask me why, they don’t even mention it once haha

    There’s so many songs!!!

‘Budapest’ is such a cool song and even though it’s not about Budapest it makes me want to go there;)). A great remake of a Motown classic by Gwyneth Paltrow and Huey Lewis…Cruisin’ Together…and this one is quite old but I love it…King of the Road;))

    Have a wonderful trip!

The song ‘Budapest’ makes me reminisce on my last night in Budapest a few months ago. I was sitting at the edge of the Danube across the parliament building and drinking some wine with good friends that I met there. We listened to that song a few times that night. It was one of those moments that I live for and make me never want to stop traveling!
